Preparing for a Great Start to School – Transition to Prep 2027
Starting school is an exciting milestone for every child and family, and at Mackay West State School we are committed to making that transition as smooth, positive and enjoyable as possible.
Our Transition to Prep Program has been designed to help children become familiar with the school environment, meet new friends and begin building confidence before their first official day of Prep in 2027.
Beginning Wednesday, 29 July 2026, our Pre-Prep Transition Mornings will be held each Wednesday from 9:00am to 10:30am at the Mackay West State School Junior Campus.
Throughout the program, children will participate in a variety of engaging, play-based learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence. They will have the opportunity to:

Become familiar with the school environment and daily routines.

Meet our friendly Prep teachers and support staff.

Build early literacy, numeracy and social skills through fun, hands-on activities.

Develop independence and confidence in a supportive setting.

Make new friendships before starting school.
The program also provides parents and carers with the opportunity to learn more about school life at Mackay West State School, ask questions and begin building connections with our school community.
