Harmony Week 2024 18-21 March
Harmony Day Thursday March 21
There are a number of events and activities planned for Thursday, March 21.
Students are invited to dress in traditional attire from their culture or cultural heritage. Students who are dressed (or who have bought in traditional dress or artefacts from their cultural heritage) will be invited to come up on stage to show students during a special assembly (see below for details). Students who are comfortable and willing will be interviewed by a member of admin/school captains. If parents would like to write down a few dot points around traditional garments (particularly for early years students who may not be able to explain the cultural significance of their attire) that would be greatly appreciated.
In conjunction with Harmony Day, we’ll also be holding a special assembly for the whole school on Thursday 21st March @ 2pm under West Wing. This assembly will be in lieu of Junior Campus assembly later in the day and will include Star Students of the Week. ie no junior campus assembly in week 9. During the assembly we will unpack the meaning and learnings from Harmony Day and “show off” the traditional dress of students as mentioned above.
Classes will participate in a number of activities including having students plot their country of heritage on world maps which will be kept on display.
Should be a great day celebrating cultural diversity at Mackay West!
