Welcome to Mackay West State School, a proud and well-respected school, recognised across all sectors of education and the wider community for maintaining a consistent approach to academic, sporting and cultural excellence. Our motto, 'always our best", encapsulates our commitment to providing the best possible educational environment for your child where they can reach their full potential.

Mackay West State School has a highly valued instrumental Music program including Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion groups. These groups, together with highly skilled Specialist Music teachers and school wide Music and Arts programs, enable students to participate in many cultural events such as school concerts, Eisteddfods, Fanfare, Mackay Orchestra and Band Festivals, and Rock Pop Mime Shows.

High standards of behaviour through explicit teaching of social skills promotes a disciplined, supportive and safe learning environment for all.  At Mackay West we embrace the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework to ensure all students are supported through their learning journey.

Our students enjoy success across a large range of school sports. Students are regularly selected to represent at district, regional and state levels. Many staff members are accredited coaches and managers for Primary School Sports teams.

Mackay West is situated on two unique adjoining campuses. Students in Prep and Year 1 learn and grow on the Junior Campus (Bridge Road) whilst our Year 2 to Year 6 students develop academically and socially on the Senior Campus (Pinder Street).

We welcome you into our wonderful school community where all students can thrive!
