Mackay West SS have partnered with The NQ Cowboys to implement The Resilience Project, school partnership program, which supports the wellbeing of the whole school community and builds a positive school culture. The 2022 School Partnership Program features engaging presentations (TRP immersion sessions) to teachers, parents and students which are delivered by the founder Hugh van Cuylenburg. The Resilience Project immersion sessions are filled with inspiring stories and practical lessons to help build happiness and resilience within the whole school community.
The Resilience Project supports young people to form evidence-based habits now that will increase their capacity to deal with challenges, changes and stressors in the future. The lessons in The Resilience Project curriculum are focussed on four evidence based positive mental health strategies: Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (G.E.M) and Emotional Literacy.
Students now are engaging in G.E.M chats each week and working through lessons with their class teachers. If you have been keeping your eye on our Facebook page you would have noticed that we have provided links to The Resilience Project – At Home resources so that you can partake, as a family, in the fun, activities and development of these strategies and habits.
The resilience project has been endorsed and supported by the North Queensland Cowboys, therefore as part of the program The North Queensland Cowboys assist schools with implementing the program in their first year and conducting the immersion sessions for Prep – Year Six, a Staff Presentation and a Community/Parent Presentation. They have organised the buses for all students to these sessions at no cost to parents/guardians.
