Join Us for Our 2026 NAIDOC Week Parade
Mackay West State School warmly invites our families, Elders, community members and friends to join us as we celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 with our annual NAIDOC Parade.
This year's national NAIDOC theme, "50 Years of Being Deadly," marks a significant milestone, celebrating five decades of recognising and honouring the histories, cultures, achievements and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on our shared journey and continue building stronger relationships through respect, understanding and reconciliation.
Our parade is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together, celebrate culture and acknowledge the rich traditions and stories that have shaped our nation for thousands of years. Students will proudly participate in the parade as we recognise the importance of culture, connection to Country and the strength of community.

Following the parade, we invite our community members to stay and enjoy morning tea with our Indigenous students from Years 4–6 and our Student Leaders. This informal gathering provides a wonderful opportunity to connect, share stories and celebrate together.
At Mackay West State School, we are committed to fostering an inclusive school community where every student feels a sense of belonging and where the histories and cultures of Australia's First Nations peoples are celebrated and respected throughout the year.
We look forward to welcoming everyone as we come together to celebrate this important occasion.
Everyone is welcome! We hope you can join us as we honour culture, celebrate stories and continue walking together as one community.
