Bridge Road Campus

Servicing students in Prep and Year 1.
Features include  a fully refurbished Prep Centre, 2 single classrooms; 3 double teaching areas; Library and Administration block,  wheelchair access; covered play area; well established, shady adventure playground; safe set-down area for cars; off-street parking; 2.14 hectares.

Pinder Street Campus

Servicing students in Years 2 - 6.
Features include a combination of single and open area classrooms; New Technology Centre, New Dedicated Science Rooms, Modern Library and Arts Centre, tuckshop; modern sporting facilities including basketball and tennis courts.  Large well-grassed ovals. Sun protected activity areas. 4.5 hectares approx.

This school provides opportunities for all children to reach their potential academically, culturally, socially and in sports by:-

  • Providing quality teaching and learning in all key learning areas

  • Tournament of Minds, writers and artists, academic competitions

  • Recognising children's individual efforts with special awards

  • Utilising the services of a Language Other Than English (LOTE) teacher 

  • Participating in community activities, for example local Eisteddfod; Music and Drama Festival, local Arts Festival, ANZAC Day activities

  • Providing a comprehensive school music program and instrumental program overseen by the resident music teacher

  • Encouraging school sports at all levels of participation with the assistance of the physical education teachers

  • Catering for social development through an outdoor/camping program, school discos and excursions

  • West offers a non-denominational Religious Instruction for students

  • Volunteers also operate a tuckshop.

Our school staff is experienced, supportive and dedicated, which assists in fostering a sound education and harmonious learning environment for all students.  Mackay West State School provides a nurturing and enriching environment, which in turn allows each child to develop to his/her fullest potential.

There is an active P&C Association which meets monthly to address current issues and to provide financial support for school resources.
