The 2024 Mackay West Swimming Carnival for students in years 4, 5 and 6 will be held at the Mackay ARC (Aquatic and Recreation Complex) beside the University of Central Queensland. The carnival will be held in week 10 on Friday the 6th of December.
All students will be travelling to and from the complex by bus. Students in grades 4, 5 and 6 will be required to be at school by 8:45 am as the first bus departs at 9.00am sharp. There will be no cost for the bus or entry to the pool for this activity.
All spectators are welcome to attend the swimming carnival. There will be no cost to come and watch and support your students.
Students will be participating in events including 25m freestyle, 25m backstroke, 25m breaststroke and 25m freestyle relay. All students will be offered the opportunity to swim across the pool (approx. 12 metres & students can stand in this pool) to earn a point for their house.
Swim Carnival commences at 10.00am and concludes at 1.30pm.
To ensure everyone’s safety, a qualified lifeguard, first aid officer and numerous strong swimmers and teachers will be in the pool to assist where required.
Students will require…
- Lunch (no canteen/tuckshop available for students on this day). Parents are welcome to avail themselves of the canteen at the ARC.
- Water Bottle
- Students are encouraged to wear house colours, otherwise school uniform.
- Towel
- goggles (optional), swim shirt
- Swimming clothes – we highly recommend that students wear their swim costume under their uniform or house colours shirt/shorts (if possible) to school on the day. This will lessen change times and the inevitable “misplacement” of clothing. Students will change back into school uniform / house colours clothes (including school shoes) at the end of the carnival.
- Dry undergarments to change into after the carnival
- School shoes to be worn to and from the pool
- Sunscreen – preferably applied before arriving at school
- Hat
