  • To promote greater awareness in our school community of the valuable role of the public library as a co- educator, especially in the core business area of Literacy
  • To provide a learning network which runs parallel with formal school education
  • To promote greater awareness and understanding of each others role/job description
  • To provide a networked learning community and embed the use of technology
  • To increase numbers of students who are active borrowers from Council Library Services
  • To emphasise similarities of public/school library’s operating system

Mackay West State School also has a partnership with the Early Years Health and Wellbeing Centre.

In 2019, Mackay West State School began a collaborative partnership with Eyes Open Social Media Safety.  Eyes Open Social Media Safety has been endorsed by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner for Queensland with a charter to protect school aged children and families and adults from the dangers that exist on social media networks.  Eyes Open Social Media Safety will be working closely with the school to deliver workshops to students, staff and families to enhance interaction within the digital world.

Chaplaincy Services

Chaplaincy services provide students, staff & families with social, emotional and spiritual support, provide an additional adult role model in the school and enhance engagement with the broader community including parents. We rely on local community support for the Chaplaincy Service.

Chaplaincy services are inclusive of and show respect for all religious and non-religious beliefs and other stances represented in the school community. All activities and events provided are non-discriminatory and equally available to students of all beliefs. Chaplains do not engage in evangelising or proselytising, nor attempt to undermine a student's religious or other beliefs.

We have the privilege of utilising Chappy Phil here at Mackay West on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Call in to Administration to visit with Chappy Phil or call to arrange a time to see him.
